Spiderman Vs. Elphaba

Okay, so every Broadway geek has probably heard about the success of Spiderman: The Musical. According to weekly grosses, it is coming up very close to the insanely popular Wicked. Personally, I'm rooting for Wicked to overrule the newcomer to Broadway because most people only really like Spiderman for its special effects. I have not yet heard one person mention that it has a great score or amazing lyrics. Now take a look at Wicked. The score, lyrics, costumes, set, special effects, everything about it is amazing! Then what makes Spiderman so great? I honestly don't see it, since there have been other shows with cool special effects plus more. I'm really hoping that when people read this post, they realize that Wicked has so much more than Spiderman.

A Monster Musical

Okay, I feel soooo bad because I keep forgetting to post about this but last Wednesday, I saw Young Frankenstein at Buell Theatre in Denver and it was REALLY AMAZING!!!!!!! Roger Bart played the role he originated and I absolutely LOVED HIM!!!!!!! The whole cast was stellar overall, and I now dub this show one of my top 5 favorites of all time. I still don't understand why it stunk on Broadway (just one of those random Broadway mysteries, I guess), because personally, I really loved this show. The choreography, which was by Susan Stroman, also known for her work in Crazy for You, was fantastic. I also really loved the lyrics to every song. In fact, my very favorite song from Young Frankenstein would have to be "Puttin' on the Ritz". I mean, the tap dancing in this song was phenomenal, and the energy really stood out. Although, I'm really jealous of a couple of my theatre buddies who actually met Roger Bart and even got a hug from him! I don't think I can forgive them for meeting him without me!

Legally Amazing!!!!!

Sorry everyone that I haven't been posting lately! I've been caught up with rehearsals for a local production of Fiddler on the Roof and haven't found the time to actually post anything. Okay, on Tuesday of this past week, I saw Legally Blonde The Musical at the Buell Theatre and LOVED it!!!!!! I mean, I knew going in that I would like it a lot, but not be completely in love with it! Becky Gulsivg, who played Elle Woods, was an incredibly comical yet sweet blonde president of Delta Nu. Those of you who haven't seen the movie are INSANE! It's probably one of my very favorite movies of all time. I love Reese Witherspoon a lot, but still prefer Gulsvig. "What You Want", the song about Elle deciding to apply for Harvard Law, was a fantastic ensemble dance number. I'd have to say though, out of ALL the songs, "Omigod You Guys" and "Bend and Snap" have to be my favorites (I just can't choose which one was better!) I didn't find ANY flaws in this musical, but still can't decide whether I like it more than Phantom of the Opera or not (NOTHING can or will ever be better than Wicked!) And you better believe that I'm determined to be Elle Woods on Broadway someday (along with Glinda and Adelaide)!

Defying Musical Gravity

Finally, after waiting SO long (since I'm a teen, I can get pretty impatient), I saw Wicked last night at Buell Theatre in Denver! I'll tell you what, I was BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER after I saw it. Every time I have heard "Defying Gravity", I got goosebumps right at the end of it, but last night, I got them at the very beginning of the song. Come intermission, I turned to my dad and we were both in total shock by everything we had just seen. All I could really say was, 'Wow!'; that's exactly how blown away I was. Although, I'm wondering even more now why Stephen Schwartz isn't as big as Stephen Sondheim (hopefully that will change!) Still, I can't believe I ever missed out on this amazing musical. One question, though, that keeps going through my mind is, 'Why did it have to end?'

Wicked Freak

If you haven't seen my top ten best Broadway musicals list (which appeared about a month ago), then you probably have no idea what my favorite Broadway musical of all time is: Wicked. I know, I know; it's not too much of a surprise, considering I'm a teenage girl who hates Twilight. My philosophy on teen girls is you're either a fan of Twilight or a fan of Wicked. But anyways, I'm of course a Wicked freak, and along with that, my idol is Kristin Chenoweth, so naturally, I would love this musical. However, as crazy as this sounds, I have never seen Wicked; but no worries, because in 2 weeks, I'm seeing it in Denver on the national tour, which I am so stoked about. Of course, though, Kristin won't be in this national tour, which I think is totally outrageous!
