I'm a Real Boy

As Broadway fans know, Avenue Q is closing September 13. Although I've never seen it, people say it's a great show. Well, tonight I'm seeing a (believe it or not) marionette show called, Pilgrim's Progress, which by the way is nothing like Avenue Q, but is, nonetheless, a puppet show. If anyone has ever seen this, I'm sure you enjoyed it. But personally, I think marionettes are quite childish and not very interesting to watch. Being an actress, I hate to criticize my fellow artists, but with puppetry, it's very different. I've just never really liked marionettes. Their very existence makes me cringe. But I might as well see it, just in case my mind miraculously changes.

LuPone Power

It's a true statement: I am a Broadway geek! But there's one particular person that I have no idea why she's so popular: Patti LuPone. I mean, what is so great about her? I think her phrasing is all wrong and I just overall hate her voice! And being an Ethel Merman fan, I don't like the fact that LuPone has taken on some of Ethel's best roles and then gotten all the credit. I actually prefer Ethel over Patti (well, obviously!) Plus after hearing the story about her calling out a person who was distracting in the audience, I'm utterly annoyed with this woman. She's just seems like a person who I would never want to meet (and I hope I never do!) Well, if someone can ever explain Patti LuPone's popularity to me, a lot of things would be cleared up.

Denver's Got It All

If you are a Broadway-musical geek living in Colorado (like myself), you will be excited to know that Denver Center Attractions has announced its 2010 season for national tours. I personally think that Legally Blonde the Musical, which comes to Denver February 2-14 at Buell Theatre, is going to be the best this season. Call me crazy, because I have never seen the movie. But I am a girl who loves pink and wishes she was blonde! However, I do think the rest of the season is going to be great, with awesome shows like Young Frankenstein, Shrek the Musical, In the Heights and South Pacific. I know what you all think of Shrek the Musical: it's childish. And after seeing a dance number from this musical at the Tony's, I do agree that it may seem quite immature at times, but I think it's worth seeing. (I do know for a fact that In the Heights and South Pacific are going to be great musicals!) So if you love seeing a lot of blondes dance across the stage, or even fairy tale creatures, check out the 2010 national touring season at the Denver Center!

Feline Frenzy

Okay, call me crazy: I have never seen a show on Broadway. Sure, I've seen some of the shows on national tour that come to Denver but never Wicked (even though it is my favorite musical!) I haven't even some of the great musicals, like say, Cats. (Now you can let out your gasps of horror.) I always have been a huge fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber (I have seen Jesus Christ Superstar and Phantom of the Opera, so don't worry!) but somehow I have never taken the time to see Cats. And although I'm finally seeing it tonight, I still have this question: why is it so popular?!? While I can't answer this particular question, I'm also trying to figure out why this show was on Broadway for so long (at least Phantom of the Opera deserved it). But based on these two facts, I hope it's worth seeing!

Yet Another

As with any other actor, you have to audition for shows if you want to be in it. It's not like you can always count on getting into a show without an audition first. Well, yet again, I'm auditioning for AlleyCat Theatrics production of Annie Jr! This is a local children's theatre company and I have performed with this group a few times before, so I know I have at least a 97% chance that I will get into this show. However, being 5'4" tall, I know for sure I'm not getting Annie, even though I did a year ago with a different children's theatre company. Anyways, whatever part I get, Ill be very happy with (just no more guy parts!)
